Westlife perform their final ever Sheffield date at the Motorpoint Arena on Tuesday June 12. Following the band’s recent announcement that, after 14 years, they are to separate, the June 12 show will be the last of three sold-out Sheffield dates on their final tour.
With two Brits, an MTV Award, a World Music Award, no less than four Record of The Years under their belt and an incredible back catalogue spanning well over a decade not many artists can compare to Westlife’s extraordinary success. In the UK alone they have earned the title of Biggest Selling International Band this Decade, scoring 10 multi platinum albums, the third highest number one single record in UK history (with only Elvis Presley and The Beatles ahead) and they also hold the crown for the Biggest Arena Act of All Time in the UK performing a record of 25 concerts at Wembley Arena.
‘The Greatest Hits Farewell Tour’ will see Kian, Shane, Mark and Nicky perform their 14 number one singles and hits in one spectacular live show for the very last time. Having sold over 44 million records worldwide, the aforementioned 14 number one singles and seven number one albums, Irish super-group Westlife are celebrating over 14 years of success with the recent release of their ‘Greatest Hits’ album.
The band said: “It’s almost hard to believe that we’ve been doing this for as long as we have. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved and are looking forward to performing our Greatest Hits live on the tour as a special thank you to our fans who have supported us throughout our career.”
Two of the bands supporting them on their Farewell Tour are to be ‘Glenn Cal’ and ‘Vanquish’.
Singer-Songwriter Glenn Cal is quickly making a name for himself on the Irish and UK music scene. Since the recording of his EP ‘Brand New Day’ in 2010, Glenn has been gigging extensively. 2011 was a busy year for Glenn, he was handpicked by Westlife to join them on their entire Gravity Tour across Ireland and the UK as an official support act. It was a dream come true for Glenn to perform for 25 nights in 12 Arenas such as Wembley Arena and the 02 in London, the Odyssey in Belfast and five unforgettable nights in the 02 in Dublin. With the success of the Gravity tour, Glenn was asked by the lads to join them again for one last time on this, their 2012 Farewell tour.
Vanquish are four gorgeous, motivated girls who sing powerful, catchy songs with an ultra-modern sheen, they are a fantastic new girl band intent on getting inside your head and staying there. Their debut single is ‘The Harder You Love’, which is out in April. Holly, Bee, Lizzy and Rianna have spent the last year touring and performing to huge audiences, and ‘The Harder You Love’ is the first taste of their exciting sound. Written by Ivor Novello Award winner Jorgen Elofsson – who has also created songs for Kelly Clarkson, Britney Spears, Westlife, Will Young and Leona Lewis, and is responsible for 8 UK number 1 records – it’s a fantastic track destined to fill the musical void left by Girls Aloud.
